Indications for navigated implantation in the dental region (guidelines, GERMANY)

With appropriate computer programs, virtual planning of implant placement can be performed preoperatively on the basis of the three-dimensionally acquired image data. Direct instrument navigation or procedures supported by drilling templates are available for intraoperative implementation.
Navigated placed implants show a smaller deviation from the planning. However, this has no effect on the survival of the implants. Postoperative pain is lower, which is probably due to increased transginigival implant placement. No studies were available to demonstrate the expected advantage of prosthetic superstructure.
The use of navigation-guided implantology is tied to experience in both 3D diagnostics and the use of navigation-guided procedures.
