German Orthopaedists demand expertise for implant register (german)

The German Society for orthopaedics and orthopaedic surgery (DGOOC) welcomes the draft for the founding an obligatory German Implant Registry. by the Federal Ministry of health (BMG) – the German society. This shall complete the database of the till now voluntary Endoprothesenregister Germany (EPRD).
Germany follows the example of other European countries like Sweden or Great Britain which have introduced obliging national registers decades ago. Volkmar Jansson, scientific director of the EPRD, emphasizes: “The EPRD (= the societies register, red.) of the DGOOC contains far larger case numbers than other registers and has a high scientific importance.”
A complete recording over the new duty register is therefore indispensable. Karl-Dieter Heller, vice-president of the AE (German society for endoprosthetsis), also agrees: “A complete recording of all implanted or changed hip and knee joints is the optimum from the scientific view. Through this we receive complete data to the durability of the used endoprosthesis and the revision numbers.”
