German government decides on a national implant patient registry

Patients, clinics and health insurance companies must report to the database. The manufacturers must register products.
By the scientific assessment of the recorded data, such as the life time of implants, conclusions shall be drawn on the quality of the medical products and the quality of the implanting facilities. The German institute for medical documentation and information (DIMDI) shall take the central data collection as a register place. Hip, knee and breast implants first implants shall be recorded beginning middle of 2021.
