EU Commission wants to establish a Europe-wide network of health data

In the future, EU citizens should be able to easily use their health data in all countries of the European Union. The EU Commission today presented a proposal to create a “European Health Data Network”.Patients would then be able to share their medical history, test results or prescriptions with hospitals and doctors throughout the EU.
The second objective of the proposal is to enable researchers, industry and public institutions to exploit the potential of the data.Data protection and security standards should always be observed. Citizens should have control over their data and decide for themselves what information they share. Researchers would also need permission from national authorities to work with the data.
